"This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness"

-Dalai Lama

One of the most beautiful cathedrals I have seen lies in the heart of Milan….The Duomo. Its vast, eerie-aired open spaces create a very mysterious and ominous atmosphere.

Colours of the Duomo

I have done a little texture work in the past, but have recently renewed my interest in them because of some inspiring work I have seen from Skyshaper, Nick, Vanessa and many others here on flickr.
Experimentation with textures sure can be time consuming, but also fun and enjoyable.

Thanks to Skyshaper for your tips…This one is for you mate.

The Era of Gothica

The view of Milan from the roof of the Duomo Cathedral. On a clear day you can see all the way to the Alps.

…..the calmness within.

"I existed from all eternity and, behold, I am here; and I shall exist till the end of time, for my being has no end."

-Kahlil Gibran,

The Sound of Silence.....

This is another shot from a church I found in Lake Como.

I am slowly catching up on everyone’s streams. Its been a really hectic week with work and I have barely had time to do anything else. Glad its Friday..time to enjoy the weekend..shame they always go by so fast.

Have a great weekend everyone!

I had seen pictures of the Milan train station but I could never comprehend its size. The building itself is currently under renovation ( well it was while I was there back in April )and its architecture is superb.

As soon as you pass the main entrance, the main lobby and make your way up the escalators, this is the sight that you are greeted with. It also looks well cool on the night time.

Arrival or Departure

The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is a very popular shopping and eatingĀ  area in Milan. It is situated right by the Milano Duomo cathedral.

The street is covered over by an arching glass and steel roof, with the central point being topped with a glass dome.

The Glass Dome

If you thought my last image of the Duomo Roof in Milan showed its enormity, then this shows that plus how intricately detailed the building is. No wonder its taken over five centuries to build this amazing cathedral.

You can see the scaffolding were they are working to restore some parts of the building which have deteriorated.

The little dots in the sunrays are the particles of dust floating around all over the place.

For anyone who has been to the Navigli Canal in Milan, the atmosphere here on the night is superb, with plenty of cafes and restaurants to choose from.

Happy hour is especially good…. ;-)
